The Andean mountain range in Ecuador is part of the ‘Ring of Fire’, a mountain range that goes from north to south and crosses the equatorial line. It is the only place in the world that crosses this line by mountains. These are factors that make the Ecuadorian Andes an extraordinary place to visit. This mountain range is known as the Avenue of the Volcanoes. The majority of these mountains are actually active volcanoes that people can visit easily, with at least 12 of these mountains reaching higher than 4876m of altitude.
Apart from its natural beauty and unique landscapes, the Ecuadorian Andes offers many different places to visit. From indigenous communities, traditional markets, ancient ruins and cities that are declared by UNESCO as cultural heritage sites, making the Ecuadorian Andes a unique and special place in the world.
